How is Satin Fabric Made?
As mentioned earlier, the word “satin” represents the method used in constructing the fabric, but it does not indicate a particular raw material. It is also used in identifying the type of fabric created. So, how does the satin weave method work?
Satin Fabric is constructed out of low-twist yarn through a process known as twill weaving. Four horizontal yarns, referred to as weft threads, are covered using one lengthwise yarn, which would lead to fewer interlacing. This is what gives the satin fabric its smooth feature.
Though satin can be made using wool and polyester, silk is still considered as the preferred option, followed by polyester. But, one mistake people often make is confusing satin with sateen. The simple difference is that, sateen is a fabric that is made when cotton is applied to a satin weave.
Are Silk and Satin the same?
The answer to this is a definite No! It is not hard to differentiate a fabric that is Satin from that which is silk. Satin can be easily identified by a distinctive sheen that is smooth and glossy, with one side of the fabric being dull or matte while the other is shiny and smooth.
