First, what is Satin?

So you don’t get confused, satin is a sleek and glossy fabric that is made using one of the three basic textile weave techniques known as the satin weave method. By the time the fabric has been fully constructed, it will be characterized by a dull back with a lustrous face and a smooth surface. This fabric comes in a wide variety of weights, depending on what it will be used for. This could include bedspreads, linings, upholstery, and even dresses like evening wears.

Examples of Satin Fabric

Satin has been found to be commonly used for not just women's clothing but also for men's clothing and accessories. That being said, there are different varieties of Satin Fabric that you can choose from, depending on what you want. These include Bridal satin fabric, Crepe Back satin fabric, Floral Jacquard satin fabric, Big Polka Dot satin fabric, Poly satin fabric, Polyester Solid satin fabric, Rosette Mesh satin fabric, and Rosette satin fabric.

How is Satin Fabric Made?

As mentioned earlier, the word “satin” represents the method used in constructing the fabric, but it does not indicate a particular raw material. It is also used in identifying the type of fabric created. So, how does the satin weave method work?

Satin Fabric is constructed out of low-twist yarn through a process known as twill weaving. Four horizontal yarns, referred to as weft threads, are covered using one lengthwise yarn, which would lead to fewer interlacing. This is what gives the satin fabric its smooth feature.

Though satin can be made using wool and polyester, silk is still considered as the preferred option, followed by polyester. But, one mistake people often make is confusing satin with sateen. The simple difference is that, sateen is a fabric that is made when cotton is applied to a satin weave.
